THE PURCHASE OF THE LAND

It is now January 2020 and in constant communication with the people involved in Portugal, we are now ready to take the step to the notary in Odemira.

So we start in Germany on January 7th with the car, in order to punctually take the appointment with the notary on January 15th. We used the time before the actual appointment to open a Portuguese bank account and make the necessary tax registration at the tax office in Odemira. Both are obligatory for the purchase of the property.

On 15 January, all parties to the proceedings appeared punctually at the notary at 11:00 a.m. We invited an old friend from Aljezur to act as interpreter. The notarial act as such is held exclusively in the Portuguese language. We also wanted to understand what we are signing there! After a little more than an hour it was done, we had paid the land transfer tax due in a little break at the tax office and went home as owners of a piece of Portugal.
